The last few days have been one big whirlwind! I have been spun in circles, tossed and turned, and spit back out...surprisingly still alive. On Wednesday I got a call from Rose, the Center Director of the Sylvan Learning Center where I teach. She asked if I could come in and meet with the owner. I couldn't that day so she said she would try to connect us later in the week. Later that afternoon I received a call from the owner himself, Mike, asking to meet with me the next morning before my shift. I had absolutely no idea what this was all about. I showed up the next morning to an unexpected and unprepared for INTERVIEW! The Education Director position of a new center that Mike is opening became available and I was highly recommended by Rose. I wasn't sure what to think or how to react. After my shift of teaching, Mike took me to the new center to show me around and chat some more. He also took me out to lunch and the interview continued. Never in my life have I experienced a 4 hour interview until this week. I don't think I ever want to experience one again. At the end of the day I left with a lot on my mind and a potential BIG decision to make. Mike emailed me a personality survey and asked me to complete it and call him that night. I was exhausted but followed directions. I can tell you I slept like a rock that night!
The next day I almost wanted to forget about the entire thing and just enjoy the day shopping with Ang. I was obviously asking too much. While out shopping I received a phone call from Mike. He told me that he got the results back from my personality survey and found that I am a perfect fit for the position...in fact, more so than ANYONE he has interviewed for other director positions of other centers. He then asked me to meet him again before my shift at the Center to talk some more. When I arrived, he took me over to a Pastry Shoppe for something to enjoy while talking. We sat outside and talked more about my full interest level, the risk (he realizes my desire to teach seminary and the potential of being offered the position at the end of the school year and his plan is to hire an Education Director who plans to stick around and take over at Center Director so he can open more centers), the time commitment, and many more things. I was starting to wonder if he was really willing to offer me the position. He finally did and I took it (I had spent many long hours thinking through EVERYTHING...the things I would give up, the things I would gain, the realization that this is a once in a lifetime offer that I really don't deserve).
So long story short, I am the EDUCATION DIRECTOR OF A SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER...a big girl job with my own office, my own title, and big girl responsibility. I will be in charge of hiring and training the teachers of our center, putting together the curriculum plans for all our students, making the teacher's schedules, meeting with the parents once a month, and many more things that I am still learning about. CRAZY!!! Little Kara is growing up...I know, I'm in shock too!
