Yep!! That would be me! Slacker Blogger! It's not that I haven't had exciting things to share, just no time in which to share them! Obviously summer is over and any free time I once had is swallowed up in grading and planning and stressing. Okay, maybe not so much stressing. I've learned to not let that affect me when things are out of my control. But it is a busy school year. I am teaching 7 periods instead of just 6 and each class has 34-36 students. I have been killing my brain trying to learn the names of all my students, let alone try and figure out their strengths and weaknesses in math. I have a great set of students with some fun diversity. About 40 of my geometry students from last year signed up for my algebra II class so at least I came in knowing some names. I have an exchange student from Denmark (my homeland), a student from South Africa (with the GREATEST accent in the world), and two students from Russia/Ukraine!!
I've already had some crazy, memorable experiences and we are only 4 weeks in. A great one of note actually just took place last week. I was pretty tired that day and went out to the drinking fountains to fill my water bottle. Without looking beforehand (like I ALWAYS do), I pushed in the button with my left thigh and got ready to catch the water in my bottle. But instead was the victim to a funny high schooler's joke of turning the spout right at my crouch. I had the perfect water trail all the way down my leg. Thank you jokesters who never imagined their sorry victim would be a teacher. Thank goodness I have a good sense of humor and just laughed about the whole thing...then rubbed my pants for the rest of that lunch period in attempts to dry them out before last period. :)
Anyway, I have also enjoyed some fun outside of school...not as much since school started...Here are some highlights.
I took one last trip home before the new school year and my dear friend, Nicole joined me. We enjoyed my cute town and the local county fair with rodeo. Good times!!
After Nicole left, I enjoyed some always treasured time with my parents including a great hiking trip with my dad. It's amazing to me that practically in my backyard we are in the mountains! Gorgeous!
Also before school started, I joined some friends to hike Mt. Timp. This is a hike I have wanted to do for years and just haven't done it. So when Rob invited me to join his birthday outing, I jumped right on it! We left at midnight and got to the top in time for the sunrise. It was a crazy hike in the dark, especially this year with our late snow and all the icy glaciers we had to cross. I literally dug my fingernails into the ice to ensure my not sliding down the mountain. My fingers were numb for two days after. I can't say it was the most enjoyable hike but definitely memorable. Dave carried a birthday cake all the way to the top so we could celebrate Rob there. Good times!!
Right after school started I was able to support my dear Torri in her performance in Hairspray! Such a great production!! Loved it!!
Then over Labor Day weekend, Torri and I enjoyed a break away from social responsibilities, dating stresses, and work. We booked ourself a hotel with a pool down south and honestly relaxed! It was a very therapeutic weekend for MANY reasons!!! Torri helped me to realize that I have been letting my single situation bring me down mentally which has affected all other aspects of life. The years and years that I have spent working on my confidence were feeling forgotten. So Torri and I made a deal that we would email each other 3 honest compliments about ourselves a day. I cannot tell you how much it has helped! I feel much closer to the top of the world and much more able to take on the world! I am amazed how mental, spiritual, and physical health are so closely connected and how important it is to take care of all three!!
More recently I was able to enjoy the India Festival at the Hare Krishna temple with Devin. Neither of us knew what to expect and we were entertained. The temple is absolutely gorgeous and the traditions are fun!
Life is good!! The gospel is true!!! Our Heavenly Father loves us all!! We are His children! We have a divine nature and the ability to repent that lead us to GREAT HAPPINESS!! The gospel is GOOD NEWS!!! Jesus Christ is the Savior! These are a few of the things that I know!
