The Decision

Since my deadline for getting back to the Charter School was today, a decision had to be made. I took half the day off yesterday to research, ponder, and go to the temple. And after all that, I feel not only good but VERY EXCITED about my decision.

Here is the plan. I'm going to get into the substitute system for the first half of the year to give me a little bit of freedom to catch up with family and friends, as well as the time to do some on-site research of different places I could potentially move. This will also give me a chance to get back in the classroom and see if full-time teaching is really what I want to get back into. And it will allow me to experience high school verses middle school and different schools along the way. I can make some good connections and be better educated in my own decision of where I want to be. Then in January I am hoping to do some volunteer teaching in Russia. I have an interview on Monday and am pretty sure I have the experience and background that will convince them to accept me in the program. I will spend four months in Russia or Ukraine teaching English for 3-4 hours a day and then learn the language, culture, and such in the meantime. I can't tell you how excited I am for this opportunity. I will be VERY much out of my comfort zone but that is a good thing and what I need right now.

Thank you all for your advice and opinions. I read each one and then made up my own mind! :) Here's to an exciting year!!

good luck with it all! :) Subing is great. for the freedom! And no grading. :) But do remember, you can always have more control over your own classroom. :) Cause there will be great sub days and not so great ones. So just keep that in the back of your mind as you sub and compare it to teaching. ;) HS is WAY better in my opinion. But I had a couple of honors classes, and that makes all the difference too. :)
